Giro d'Italia – Picnic Post NL delivers

Three weeks, 21 stages, over 3,000 kilometers and 52,000 meters of climbing – the Giro d’Italia is one of the toughest stage races in the world. Team Picnic PostNL rose to the challenge with excellence, claiming a stage victory, strong individual performances, and a top-15 finish in the general classification.

Here’s a quick summary of three weeks of top-class road racing:

Stage Win and Aggressive Racing

Already in Stage 4, Dutch sprinter Casper van Uden made a bold statement by winning the bunch sprint in Lecce. It was the team’s first stage win in this year’s Giro and a major milestone for the 23-year-old rider.

Romain Bardet also showed his class: in Stage 13, he launched an attack alongside Mathias Vacek (Lidl-Trek) during the descent and briefly broke away from the peloton. Although the duo was caught before the finish line, Bardet’s move highlighted the team’s aggressive approach.

Highlights from Week Two

The team continued to impress in the second week of the Giro:

  • Max Poole finished 11th in Stage 14, with Romain Bardet close behind in 13th.

  • In the general classification, Max Poole moved up to 18th place, just 5 minutes and 51 seconds behind the race leader

A Standout Ride in Stage 17

Stage 17, from San Michele all’Adige to Bormio, featured iconic climbs like the Passo del Tonale and Passo del Mortirolo. Romain Bardet attacked early as part of a breakaway and led the race until the final kilometers. He was only caught by Isaac Del Toro and Richard Carapaz shortly before the finish, securing an impressive 2nd place. Max Poole also delivered a strong ride, crossing the line in 9th.

Farewell to Romain Bardet

The Giro d’Italia 2025 marked the final Grand Tour of Romain Bardet’s career. His experience and leadership were invaluable throughout the race. Reflecting on his performance, Bardet said:

"“I had this stage in mind from the beginning. I think I rode well, but we never had a really big gap. Even when I was caught, I still believed in the win. I gave everything and have no regrets.”"

Giro Takeaway

Team Picnic PostNL can look back on a successful Giro d’Italia 2025. With a stage victory, a consistently offensive racing style, and a top-15 finish in the GC, the team proved it can compete at the highest level. Romain Bardet’s farewell added an emotional layer to the campaign. We’re looking forward to the challenges ahead and can’t wait to celebrate more victories in the future.
