Stefan Küng European champion for the second consecutive year
The Swiss rider of the Groupama-FDJ cycling team has won the right to wear the jersey of the European time trial champion for another season.
This year, the European time trial championships were held in Trento in Italy on a fast 22,4km course. Amongst the 39 riders to take to the time trial start line were the Italian Filippo Ganna and the Belgian Remco Evenpoel. Stefan Küng calculated his effort to perfection to impose himself on his rivals and retain his title, for a second consecutive year.
Despite the Swiss rider being 3 seconds behind his Italian rival and current World Champion at the halfway point, it was not enough to distract him. With a demonstration of perfect control on his Aerostorm, the Swiss rider put ten seconds into his rival to cross the finish line with a 7 second victory.
An excellent performance by the Groupama-FDJ rider who came tantalisingly close to a podium in the recent Tokyo Olympic Games.
